Grenoble Model United Nations (GMUN)

The GMUN is a simulation of international negotiations in the United Nations (UN) as typical Model United Nations (MUN) organized around the globe in Geneva, New York or London.

Organized each year by AMEDIE since 2006, the GMUN is the oldest MUN in France!

It is supported by Grenoble Law School and its professors.

The GMUN concept is about putting the shoes of a diplomat. Each participant represents, with his or her buddy, a state delegation (or an international organization, NGO or any other type of non-state entity) within one of the United Nations councils (Security Council or Human Rights Council).

The goal is to confront the students to a situation of international negotiation and to the concrete realities of the subjects he addresses in his teachings (human rights, armed conflicts, environment, terrorism etc.).

The purpose is to allow the parties involved to reach an agreement and adopt a resolution to resolve a fictional situation threatening peace and international security. In this context, a simulation of negotiations, taking place over 3 days, in English and strictly following the rules of procedure of the United Nations takes place.

The GMUN hosts several delegations, in which the participants are distributed. Delegations are modeled at best on the model of States now sitting in both councils, with some modifications made in relation to the subject under discussion.

The GMUN is the opportunity for interested students to play as a diplomat and live three days at the fast rythm of international negotiations. From plenary sessions to informal arrangements to diplomatic cocktails and interventions by humanitarian law professionals, every effort is made to introduce participants to the different aspects of the exciting work of a state delegate in an international organization.
